Opening Times

When does the Christmas Market begin?

The Schoenbrunn Christmas Market begins on 18. November at 10 a.m. From 18. November the Christmas market opens at 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. On Christmas Eve 24. December the market is open until 4 p.m. and from 25. December to 4. January until 6 p.m.

When is the Schönbrunn Christmas and New Year’s Market open?

The Schönbrunn Palace Culture & Christmas Market and New Year's Market will take place from 18. November 2023 to 4. January 2024. The exact opening hours will follow.

Is there a New Year’s market?

Yes, in the night from 26 to 27 December, the Schönbrunn Christmas Market will be transformed into the Schönbrunn New Year’s Market. Until 4 January 2023 you can bring in the New Year to the sound of live jazz concerts every day in the regal setting of Schönbrunn Palace.

Is there an admission charge for the market?

Admission to the Schönbrunn Christmas and New Year’s Market is free.

The live concerts, Interactive Game and Children’s Hut are also free.

Where is the Christmas Market?

The Schönbrunn Christmas and New Year’s Market take place in the Parade Court in front of Schönbrunn Palace. The address is

How do I get to the Christmas Market?

You can get to the Market by public transport,car, coach, on foot or by bicycle. Further information on how to get there can be found here.

How can I get to the Christmas Market by public transport?

There are regular connections to Schönbrunn:

  • U4 underground: Schönbrunn or Hietzing station
  • Trams 60 and 10: Schloss Schönbrunn stop
  • Bus 10A: Schloss Schönbrunn stop

Where can I park?

The APCOA Schönbrunn car park is open 24/7. You can park there for a fee. Further information on parking can be found here.

Is there an ATM?

Yes, there is an ATM  at the Market itself. ATMs. One of them is located directly behind the giant Christmas tree. In addition, this year there will be a second ATM at the Market and also one in the Visitor Centre to the left of the main gate. You can find a map here.

Are there toilets, and where are they?

Yes. Toilet facilities and barrier-free toilets can be found in the Visitor Centre (directly at the main gate on the left), as well as in the main gate and in the entrance hall to the Palace. There are also portable toilet cabins after the arcade in the direction of Meidlinger Tor. You can find a map here.

Is there a place to change diapers?

There is a changing table in the Visitor Centre (directly at the main gate on the left), as well as in the entrance hall of the Palace. You can find a map here. Please note the opening hours of Schönbrunn Palace..

Is the Christmas Market wheelchair-accessible?

Yes, the Christmas Market is barrier-free. There are three parking spaces for people with special needs at the main gate (Schönbrunner Schloßstraße).

Assistance dogs are allowed.

Barrier-free toilets can be found in the Visitor Centre to the left of the main gate and in the entrance hall to the Palace.

Are bicycles or scooters allowed at the Christmas Market?

No. You cannot bring your bicycle or scooter into the Christmas Market as they are prohibited throughout Schönbrunn.

Are dogs allowed at the Christmas Market?

No, you cannot bring your dog to the Schönbrunn Christmas and New Year’s Market because dogs are prohibited throughout Schönbrunn.

Assistance dogs are allowed.

Programme and highlights

Is there a programme?

Yes, there are children’s and music programmes. The precise dates and further information on our programme can be found in our event calendar.

Is there a children’s programme?

There’s lots for children to discover at the Christmas Market. There’s the Christmas Puzzle Adventure, and Interactive Game, the Children’s Hut and a visit by St Nicholas You can find further information about the children’s programme here.

How can I register my group for the Christmas Puzzle Adventure?

Registration for the Christmas Journey of Games is required only for groups of 5 children or more. You can register your group using the programme calendar. Choose your preferred date and time, and sign up your group for a slot.

In the calender, you can also see how many spots are still available for the chosen time slot. By subscribing to our newsletter, you can ensure that you receive an invitation for the next Christmas Puzzle Adventure. Is there live music?

Yes, choirs, a capella groups and brass bands perform and contribute to the festive atmosphere at the Schönbrunn Christmas and New Year’s Market. The listings can be found in our event calendar!

What products are sold at the Christmas Market?

There’s something for everyone at the Schönbrunn Christmas and New Year’s Market. The exhibitors offer products in the following categories, which can also be found in the exhibitor list :

What exhibitors are there at the Christmas Market?

The Schönbrunn Christmas and New Year’s Market have exhibitors from Austria and neighbouring countries. There is great product diversity including traditional handicrafts, nostalgic toys, unique gift ideas and culinary delicacies.

What is there to eat?

There are several food huts, where you can enjoy meat, and vegetarian and vegan specialities such as baked potatoes, Leberkäse, Spätzle, Knödel and Gröstl along with tempting sweet dishes such as doughnuts, Kaiserschmarrn and crêpes.

How can I support the SOS-Kinderdorf wishing tree charity action?

There are different ways of helping and donating to SOS Kinderdorf and 147 Rat auf Draht. A detailed description and further information can be found here.

Where does the Christmas tree come from?

The Christmas tree is donated traditionally by Österreichische Bundesforste AG and comes from a different state each year.

How can music groups, choirs or brass ensembles apply to perform at the Christmas Market and New Year's Market in Schönbrunn?

Are you a member of a wind ensemble, choir or other musical group and interested in performing at the Schönbrunn Christmas and/or New Year's Market ?
